Safer Choices and Hazardous Waste Disposal Education Program

The King County Hazardous Waste Management Program and its Residential Services Program are seeking applications from community-based organizations to deliver Safer Choices and hazardous waste disposal education across King County. The primary goal of this program is to reduce household exposure to harmful chemicals by increasing community awareness, promoting safer product alternatives, and supporting proper disposal practices.

King County Conservation Futures Grants

Conservation Futures grants are used to buy or conserve sites that will be used as parks and open spaces – for example, urban greenspaces and parks, natural areas, sites for habitat and stream restoration, forests, community gardens, farms, and trails. These open spaces may be used for passive recreation. Conservation Futures grants can be made to local government agencies and eligible nature conservancy or historic preservation nonprofits.

Medic One Foundation Community AED Grants

Medic One Foundation offers a limited number of grants for the purchase of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to be placed in public areas such as local government facilities, community centers, playfields, parks, and law enforcement vehicles within King and Snohomish counties. Priority will be given and grants awarded based upon demonstrated financial need, population served, location, and potential impact. Organizations must be a nonprofit or public entity.

"Soos Creek Area Response (SCAR) will promote environmental education and awareness as well as protection and preservation of the environment surrounding Pacific Raceways and the co-existing area known generally as the Soos Creek Watershed. This area encompasses many small streams and surrounding wetland and environmentally-sensitive areas that are populated by a variety of animal life, including Chinook and Coho salmon. Particular emphasis will be placed on, although not limited to, the above-described general area within ten miles in all directions of the Green River as it crosses under Highway 18 and the nearby Soos Creek Salmon Hatchery. SCAR will hold periodic status and education/awareness meetings with the surrounding community. The organization will monitor, and, as necessary use advocacy and education at the federal, state and local government level to promote a balance between environmental and business concerns. SCAR will also promote maintaining the Soos Creek Watershed in a manner conducive to coexisting with the existing residential base. SCAR will solicit funds from the surrounding community as needed for situations that arise which may require funding to effectively fulfill its' mission. SCAR, like many advocacy organizations, has applied for and received grants offered by King County Local Services to support and promote local organizations like SCAR to help in providing information and supporting educational and advocacy efforts."
