Keeping The Rural Area Rural

Tolling begins on northbound SR 167 between SR 410 and Pacific on Jan. 12.

January 12, 2026

Starting Monday, Jan. 12, tolling on northbound SR 167 will begin at SR 410 in Sumner, extending the current toll lane six miles further south. The same rules that went into effect on Oct. 20 everywhere else on SR 167 will go into effect between Pacific and SR 410. That means:

  • Only the left lane will be tolled and signs throughout the corridor will advise that the lane is tolled.
  • Carpoolers can still travel toll free in the left lane, but will need to have two or more people in the car, a Good To Go! account and a Flex Pass set to HOV mode. If you don’t have the pass, you will be charged a toll regardless of how many people are in the car. Motorcyclists will need a Good To Go! Motorcycle Pass to avoid a toll.
  • Dashed lines show you where to exit or enter the lane. Everywhere else, the lane is separated by double white lines, which are illegal to cross.
  • The toll rate signs will show up to three rates, but you’ll only pay the toll listed next to your exit. You don’t add up the rates, you only pay for the distance you travel. You also lock in the price you see when you enter the lane.

By converting the HOV lane into an express toll lane, solo drivers now have the option to pay a toll to use the lane when they need it. It helps everyone travel through the corridor more efficiently by providing you a choice of carpooling, paying a toll when it matters for your trip, or remaining in the general purpose lanes and avoiding a toll without needing to plan a different route.

"Soos Creek Area Response (SCAR) will promote environmental education and awareness as well as protection and preservation of the environment surrounding Pacific Raceways and the co-existing area known generally as the Soos Creek Watershed. This area encompasses many small streams and surrounding wetland and environmentally-sensitive areas that are populated by a variety of animal life, including Chinook and Coho salmon. Particular emphasis will be placed on, although not limited to, the above-described general area within ten miles in all directions of the Green River as it crosses under Highway 18 and the nearby Soos Creek Salmon Hatchery. SCAR will hold periodic status and education/awareness meetings with the surrounding community. The organization will monitor, and, as necessary use advocacy and education at the federal, state and local government level to promote a balance between environmental and business concerns. SCAR will also promote maintaining the Soos Creek Watershed in a manner conducive to coexisting with the existing residential base. SCAR will solicit funds from the surrounding community as needed for situations that arise which may require funding to effectively fulfill its' mission. SCAR, like many advocacy organizations, has applied for and received grants offered by King County Local Services to support and promote local organizations like SCAR to help in providing information and supporting educational and advocacy efforts."
